Psalm 125 – The LORD the Strength of His People

Published April 27, 2024 by Rev. Pete Van't Hoff in Devotions

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matt. 11:28). These are the words of Jesus Christ, heard and captured (written down) for us to find peace. Such is the intent of the Author and the author of Psalm 125. Such is what the Christ fulfills. First of all, find peace in His strength.

1 Those who trust in the Lord
Are like Mount Zion,
Which cannot be moved, but abides forever.
2 As the mountains surround Jerusalem,
So the Lord surrounds His people
From this time forth and forever.

Second of all, fret not about all that is set against you.

For the scepter of wickedness shall not rest
On the land allotted to the righteous,
Lest the righteous reach out their hands to iniquity.

Third of all, call upon the LORD God and be confident in His goodness.

Do good, O Lord, to those who are good,
And to those who are upright in their hearts.

And finally, know that the days of the wicked are numbered.

As for such as turn aside to their crooked ways,
The Lord shall lead them away
With the workers of iniquity.

In all this, the Psalmist and the psalmist conclude with “Peace be upon Israel!” Let us pray.

Dear Lord and heavenly Father,

You are great and greatly to be praised. May all that we have read in this Psalm bring us peace. We are weak. You are strong. What profound goodness we have been given in the Person and work of Your Son, covering our sins, defeating death, reigning true. May the Holy Spirit finish His work in us. Peace be upon Israel! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
