Psalm 135 – Praise to God in Creation and Redemption

Published May 29, 2024 by Rev. Pete Van't Hoff in Devotions

Psalm 135 is bookended with the phrase, “Praise the Lord!” This means that the contents of this psalm, as all of Scripture does, warrants our praise.

At Verses 5-7, let us praise God for our creation!

For I know that the Lord is great,
And our Lord is above all gods.
Whatever the Lord pleases He does,
In heaven and in earth,
In the seas and in all deep places.
He causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth;
He makes lightning for the rain;
He brings the wind out of His treasuries.

At Verses 9-12, let us praise God for our redemption!

9 He sent signs and wonders into the midst of you, O Egypt,
Upon Pharaoh and all his servants.
10 He defeated many nations
And slew mighty kings—
11 Sihon king of the Amorites,
Og king of Bashan,
And all the kingdoms of Canaan—
12 And gave their land as a heritage,
A heritage to Israel His people.

And to conclude, let us praise God for our redemption fulfilled in the Lord Jesus Christ. He paid the price of our sins. He is returning to judge the living and the dead. Praise the Lord! Let us pray.

Dear Lord and heavenly Father,

Blessed be Your holy name. The story of our creation and redemption is worthy of Your praise. ThankYou for saving me from death. ThankYou for saving me through the life and death of Your Son as worked in me by the Holy Spirit. Praise the Lord! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
